In this episode Andrew records a show on his last day before his first day off in a long time. After some random shenanigans he settles into talking about a controversy over a giant mesh nude sculpture in San Leandro, CA, muses on why we are so squeamish about nudity in the modern world, and relays his experience of being surrounded by nude sculpture in Vienna, Austria. Next he explores the fact that a new book by J.R.R. Tolkien is coming out thanks to the editing work of his son Christopher, musing on the nature of that particular form of genius that can hold attention on one thing for long periods of time while having a deep deep understanding of the big picture of reality. Finally, Andrew applies this ruminating on his experience of meeting and visiting with Tim Goodrich, the founder and boot maker at Sutorial in Flint, MI, and how beautiful it is to pay for something that will last forever if cherished because it is the record of a few days of one mans sustained attention to a skill he is mastering more and more all the time.
