John 16: 8-14 is a very challenging passage about one of the works of the Holy Spirit. The Church will never be reformed in the USA until we all become convinced of all the sins that lead to the abuse of children. Be no afraid and Trust the Spirit!

Considering the former Cardinal McCarrick case of abuse my mind and heart has turned toward a message in the Prophet Ezekiel, Ezekiel 34: 7-10. Within this passage the Lord speaks to the shepherds of Israel through the prophet condemning them. The Lord says he is now against the shepherds because of their abuse of the sheep. I believe this message is need more now than ever, so the leaders can wake up and begin to identify the weeds among the wheat and respond recording.

Recently, the Carmelite order on July 27th celebrated the memorial of Bl. Titus Brandsma. He was a Dutchman who worked to keep the Nazis and their ideology out of the catholic schools and newspapers in Holland. Today, I read a sermon he gave during the war years calling people to heroism in faith and love against the new-paganism of the Nazis. I have always been inspired by this sermon and so I wanted to share it with you all.

Cardinal McCarrick has been in the newspapers a lot recently and it appears he did some very terrible things (I write appear, because there has not been a trial). As a new priest I share some of my thoughts about this issue and the terrible harm he has caused people. I also as for the prayers of you all as a new priest.

Today is my 100th episode!!! Oh, happy day. July 20th is the feast of St. Elijah. We are one of the only groups in the Western Church that still celebrates old testament figures. The Gospel reading from the 14th Sunday of Ordinary got me thinking. Thinking about what? Our relationship with God. The gospel was the beginning of Mark 6, the passage where the Family of Jesus start to reject him. Within the passage it appears to me that His family has applied a lot of labels onto Jesus, labels that he is breaking. The podcast episode today goes into this topic.

In my area of the Bronx in NYC we recently had a young man killed violently by other youth. Many of the parish youth came to me asking to speak about this issue. What could I say to the young, who had so many thoughts and feelings about this issue? I believe and felt that there was nothing I could say. All I could do was listen. Today, I talk about what it means to listen and why it is important for us to listen. Listening is a struggle, but we don’t do it alone, the Holy Spirit makes it possible.

Recently, my Carmelite Province had our chapter. What is a chapter? I address that question in the episode. I believe a chapter of a religious congregation or order is an important witness for our world today. An important idea from St. Paul is that the Christian community is the body of Christ. Our religious groups chapter moments are a beautiful and important witness to that reality.

At my parish in the Bronx we have two pre-K through 8th grade schools. Right now, all our 8th grade students are saying goodbye and thinking about high school. As a parish we are offering them 8th grade retreats to help them process what they are going through. Part of those retreats has me giving them a talk. My talks this year have focused on the idea of stories. One of the things I mentioned to them is that each of our stories being with the same words.
