This kit is a gift for Chuck and Annie's goddaughter, who will be receiving the Eucharist for the first time next weekend.

Salt and Light - Episode 13: Kids in Church- Cry rooms, children's church, and the "nones"

Are you annoyed by kids in church? Are you the parent of those children in church and feel the glares of those who your kids are annoying? When we come together to worship in Church, we are surrounded by dozens of people who are different than we- in age, gender, race, financial status, etc., and yet we are all facing the same altar and worshipping the same God. 52% of Catholics leave the Catholic Church, and only 11% return according to a Pew Research study. There are many more statistics confirming this conclusion and many more which illuminate additional alarming statistics regarding the rising number of people who classify themselves as "no religious affiliation" aka the "nones". There are waves of evangelism efforts to help the "nones" return to the love of God, which is essential of course, but in this podcast, Chuck and Annie will argue that not losing people in the first place is the key. How do we do that? We listen to Jesus' words in the Gospels when we discusses children. With adrenaline still pumping from the 45th annual March for Life, Chuck and Annie sit down with Mrs. Lauren Enriquez of HumanCoalition.org. Lauren is a millenial leader of her generation and has devoted her life in full-time service of the Pro-Life cause. She joined us on this episode to share her experiences at the March for Life in Washington DC last week that are never covered on major media outlets, and she opines as to why that is the sad case. She also shared some current legislation on abortion and what organizations are doing on a national and also local, grassroots level to continue the rising tide of pro-life community and its work saving thousands and thousands of babies from abortion every single year. We also briefly discussed the Catholic Church's historical teachings on abortion, and rounded out the discussion with the little-talked-about men's role in the pro-life community.

Salt and Light - Episode 1: Did Christmas come from a Pagan Holiday?

Join Chuck and Annie in this Episode of the Salt and Light podcast in which they address the all-too-common accusation that rears its ugly head this time of year, namely “Christians took a pagan holiday and turned it into Christmas” or, more pointedly, “Christmas is a pagan holiday”.

In order to assess this accusation and see where the evidence falls, you gotta dig deep into history, theology, and one’s own self. We felt up to the challenge!

In this episode, we cover the probable pagan gods who are subject of the accusation, who they were, when they were celebrated, and who celebrated them. Then we look into historical evidence of Christian celebrations and point to very specific documents and explain their origin and significance.

Then, we look to the stars! Atronomers have long claimed that there is no way Jesus could have been born in December based on the stars. We look into this claim and address some points of interest.

Then, we look to Luke chapter 1, from which some claim to know Jesus’ birth by the priestly lot of Zechariah.

Finally, we look at the Biblical text itself to see if it can give us any clues to understand when Christ broke into our humanity in the Incarnation aka Christmas! Learn about ancient Jewish cultures, customs, and ways to measure time in hours and days.
