If you don’t yet have a book (or two, or three) by Allan Wright on your shelf, we encourage you to change that, pronto! Allan is a husband, father, author, theologian, speaker, and principal of Koinonia Academy in Plainfield, New Jersey.
In researching his book, 25 Life-Changing Questions from the Gospels: Letting Jesus Lead You through the Stages of Spiritual Growth, Allan came across this quote, from Flannery O’Connor:
“Don't expect faith to clear things up for you. It is trust, not certainty.”
These words ignite a conversation on discernment and finding peace in your life, as well as practical tips to ensuring you’re going in the direction the Lord wills for you.
Other highly recommended titles by Allan include Daily Companion for Married Couples and Daily Companion for Peace of Heart.
Find more about Allan at www.allanwright.org and follow his Facebook page, Author Allan F. Wright.

This week’s guest is the delightful Mary Harrell, Catholic radio producer and co-host of the radio show Coffee & Donuts with John & Mary, heard on Mater Dei Radio out of Portland, Oregon and 20+ markets throughout the country.
She brings our first G.K. Chesterton quote to the show (and we hope it won’t be the last!). Mary came across these lines while interviewing Dale Ahlquist for his latest book on G.K. Chesteron, Knight of the Holy Ghost.
Published on October 23, 1909 in the Illustrated London News were these words:
“Men do not differ much about what things they will call evils; they differ enormously about what evils they will call excusable.”
Much of the conversation dealt with Confession, so we’re including links to a couple of examinations of conscience to prepare to receive the sacrament.
Find Mary’s show on iTunes and follow her on Instagram, @coffeedonutspodcast and @domestic_apologist.

Tuesday Oct 08, 2019
Tuesday Oct 08, 2019
Tami Kiser, author, speaker, mother of many, founder of Heart Ridge Ministries, and producer of Catholic programs for women, joins us with a quote she first heard from Scott and Kimberly Hahn.
“You can’t outgive God.”
Tami shares with us how this phrase has guided her in her marriage, growing her family (she has ten children, five of whom are married, and a number of grandchildren), and in her and her husband’s work serving the Lord.
Tami’s latest project is happening October 7-13, 2019, and it is totally free! The “Let Us Pray” online conference brings talks from authors, experts, laypeople, and religious right to your inbox. Two talks are released each day, and all will be available on the encore day, the final day of the conference. It’s a wonderful opportunity to deepen your faith without leaving home.
Sign up for the conference and be notified about future Heart Ridge projects here. You can also find Heart Ridge on Instagram, @heartridgeministries.

S1: E4, Elizabeth, "He Was So Lucky You Are His Parents, Because I Know How Much You Loved Him”
What do you say when someone you love loses a child to miscarriage?
Lindsay lost her second child, Ethan, to miscarriage in 2012. In remembrance of Ethan during this Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, she shares her experience of a friend reaching out with words that brought comfort. Honoring the dignity of the life of the child and acknowledging the reality of the parents’ loss shows a respect for life that is often missing in people’s attempts to console, but these can make all the difference for a grieving parent (or grandparent, aunt, uncle, sibling, etc.)
From Elizabeth, “He was so lucky you were his parents, because I know how much you loved him.”
In this episode, Lindsay mentions her old blog, Young Married Mom, where she processed her loss and curated a list of resources. She also talks about this article on Verily, but didn’t mention this recent one at CatholicMom.com.
The books Lindsay recommends are her own, Don’t Forget to Say Thank You: And Other Parenting Lessons That Brought Me Closer to God; After Miscarriage: A Catholic Woman’s Companion to Healing and Hope by Karen Edmisten; and Blessed Is The Fruit of Thy Womb: Rosary Reflections on Miscarriage, Stillbirth, and Infant Loss by Heidi Indahl.

Lindsay’s husband, John, joins the show as the couple celebrates their tenth wedding anniversary. Lindsay and John have been serving in a marriage prep ministry within their diocese, and today John discusses a quote he brings to the table each time.
From St. John of the Cross, “Where there is no love, put love, and you will find love.”
Lindsay and John talk about these words within the context of marriage, as well as in the broader context of Christian living. How do you live charity without being a doormat? What is true charity to the other and how does it testify to trust in God’s love and mercy?
Happy tenth anniversary, Lindsay and John!

Quote Me S1: E2, Elena Bird, "Though She Be But Little, She Is Fierce"
Monday Sep 23, 2019
Monday Sep 23, 2019
Elena Bird, opera singer and director of sacred music at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church in Stirling, New Jersey, is our first guest!
Elena explains how a line from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream has influenced her as a singer. In the play, Helena says of Hermia, “And though she be but little, she is fierce.” In Elena’s life, it was her voice teacher saying the same of her in a time when she thought she had nothing left.
The discussion leads to a powerful conversation on the intersection of creative work, motherhood, and serving the church. What is true humility? How does it allow us to live our vocations to the glory of God?

Quote Me S1: E1, Introduction and Lao Tzu, “Watch Your Thoughts…”
Monday Sep 23, 2019
Monday Sep 23, 2019
Author Lindsay Schlegel launches her podcast, Quote Me, with words that have made a significant impact on her family as they strive to live out the Catholic faith.
“Watch your thoughts, they become your words;
watch your words, they become your actions;
watch your actions, they become your habits;
watch your habits, they become your character;
watch your character, it becomes your destiny.”
― Lao Tzu
Lindsay approaches the quote through the lens of her lifelong faith. She discusses how her husband has used it in the marriage prep ministry they serve and how her young sons have memorized it, simply from having it displayed in their home.
You can find Lindsay’s book, Don’t Forget to Say Thank You: And Other Parenting Lessons That Brought Me Closer to God, wherever books are sold (Amazon affiliate link used here).
