Catholic Answers Live - Weird Questions
Tuesday Jun 09, 2020
Tuesday Jun 09, 2020
Questions Covered:
• 03:26 - Is it possible that we are made in the image and likeness of God due to the Grandfather Paradox of Jesus assuming human flesh to begin with?
• 08:48 - My friends came up with a fun weird question for the next show: If I am transporting the Eucharist in my car, can I use the carpool lane?
• 13:43 - Do frozen embryos make their guardian angels wait with them?
• 15:08 - Will the bodies of people in hell (or heaven for that matter) need to eat and drink? Will our bodies just, subsist without sustenance?
• 19:38 - How was the holy house of Loretto transported from Nazareth to Italy.
• 22:00 - What happens to a person who can’t remember their sins through memory loss from, say, an accident, aging, or a disease like Alzheimer’s? Do they cease being culpable for their sins if they can’t remember them to repent and ask for forgiveness and reconcile with God?
• 29:22 - What could the physics of the “new heavens and new earth” (new creation) be like, such that this would no longer disintegrate due to entropy, etc.?
• 35:32 - If the Star Trek style transporter kills the person and creates a clone with that person’s memories, would a person who gets transported in such a manner have to be baptized or confirmed again? Would a priest who gets transported have to be ordained again? What about confession? What if you commit a mortal sin, then get transported, would the clone with your memories have to go to confession?
• 42:18 - If hell is complete and final separation from God, and God is necessary for existence, how do people and angels exist in hell? Another one – is the devil in hell yet, and if not, are the people in hell waiting for him to get there or are they all waiting until the end and judgement to enter hell?
• 47:41 - What are the spiritual and perhaps biological implications of combining human and pig or cow DNA? Besides having no justifiable health consideration and being seriously wrong for tampering with trying to create previously non-existing life forms, is it possible that a cow or pig could come to the realization that it will wind up as steak or bacon? If it is well known that trauma from violent wars can be passed down and sudden unknown memories which seem like deja vu do happen, is there enough information here to make human/animal chimeras unequivocally illegal? Who do we call?

Catholic Answers Live - Approaching Pride Month as a Catholic
Tuesday Jun 09, 2020
Tuesday Jun 09, 2020
Questions Covered:
• 19:10 - I work at a large corporation that has a big Pride celebration each year. Every year it seems it gets more forced upon the employees. How do I handle this? If I decline to wear a sticker I get dirty looks.
• 23:57 - Thank you for your work at Courage. How can I get parishes in my area to cooperate with Courage?
• 31:35 - My parish seems to support homosexuality. What if a gay person wants to join the Church? They would join with a false idea of what the Church teaches.
• 41:26 - I recently came back to the Church after an active homosexual lifestyle. Why do the bishops condone Fr. Martin’s actions and not support Courage more?
• 49:23 - I have a gay friend who asked me to help him make some T-shirts for Pride Month. How do I stick to my values and maintain our friendship?

Category: A Biblical Walk Through the Sacraments, Sacraments Tag: Bible reading, marriage, Old Testament, sacraments
Like all the sacraments, holy anointing was instituted by Jesus Christ during his earthly ministry. “This sacred anointing of the sick was instituted by Christ our Lord as a true and proper sacrament of the New Testament. It is alluded to indeed by Mark, but is recommended to the faithful and promulgated by James the apostle and brother of the Lord” (CCC 1511; Mark 6:13; Jas. 5:14-15).
The anointing of the sick conveys several graces and imparts gifts of strengthening in the Holy Spirit against anxiety, discouragement, and temptation, and conveys peace and fortitude (CCC 1520). These graces flow from the atoning death of Jesus Christ, for “this was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, ‘He took our infirmities and bore our diseases’” (Matt. 8:17).

Monday Jun 08, 2020

The Gospel passage from Trinity Sunday conveys a needed word for our reflection “might.” That is a window into a life that is open to us by belief and the need to also conform ourselves to that belief. So, in the episode today I wrestle with that word “might.”

Saturday Jun 06, 2020
Saturday Jun 06, 2020
“Baptism of the Spirit” is a term many Catholics have heard. But one that leaves a lot of question marks. What’s the difference between the sacrament of baptism and baptism of the Spirit? Is baptism of the Spirit in the bible? I didn’t hear about baptism of the Spirit when I was younger—is this something new in Catholicism? Listen as Richaél Lucero answers all of these questions and more.

• 28:40 - Is Catholicism compatible with Socialism?

• 06:45 - What resources would you recommend for someone trying to learn Latin?
• 12:55 - I’ve been offered a position as a board member to a Catholic school. The oath of fidelity mentions things like “Christian obedience” to what a bishop will “declare and establish.” Can you help me understand the oath of fidelity?
• 18:30 - If God is all-merciful why did Jesus say about Judas, “better that he had never been born”?
• 28:37 - I have a hard time believing in God, but the fear of Hell keeps me scared straight. What would you or the Church say about someone like me?
• 33:11 - Is it true that the primary mission of the Church is to save souls?
• 35:10 - Why is the Catholic Church so against left-wing politics but not right-wing?
• 44:12 - Was it okay for me to put my parents on hospice? They passed a couple years ago and we had them on hospice at the end. Now I’m wondering if that was the wrong decision.
• 49:43 - In Acts 5:29, Peter and the apostles are persecuted for preaching the faith and they say, “we are not subject to men but to God.” How does that mesh with Church authority?

Liturgy Live - Most Holy Trinity - Conversion is the Way
Friday Jun 05, 2020
Friday Jun 05, 2020
Our world is in chaos, and we are in need of hope. Conversion of heart to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and reception of the Sacraments and living a moral life is the only way forward. What a controversial statement. We believe that Christ is the Way. Christ told us Himself, He is the Way. When will we start actually living the Gospel? When we live the Gospel we will love God and love neighbour. Chaos cannot thrive in a relationship of virtue in love. Each of us needs to grow in continuous conversion and renewal of heart. Then we will see the change that we long for.
