John Mark Comer "The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry" - Lisa Hendey & Friends #80
Tuesday Dec 17, 2019
Tuesday Dec 17, 2019
On this week's show, we take a few moments to slow down and contemplate life with John Mark Comer, the author of The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry.
About John Mark Comer:
John Mark Comer lives, works, and writes in the urban core of Portland, Oregon, with his wife, Tammy, and their three children, Jude, Moses, and Sunday. He is the pastor for teaching and vision at Bridgetown Church. A church built around the very simple idea of practicing the way of Jesus, together, in Portland. You are welcome to follow more of John Mark’s teachings via the Bridgetown Church podcast or This Cultural Moment, a podcast he co-hosts with his friend Mark Sayers on following Jesus in the post-Christian world. You can also pursue more of his work at www.johnmarkcomer.com.
About The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry:
Dallas Willard once called hurry “the great enemy of spiritual life in our day.” Followers of Jesus are not immune to culture’s pain. Many of us live with a low-grade fatigue and chronic anxiety that rarely, if ever, goes away. We careen through our days at breakneck speed and wonder where God is in the fray. The reality is, most of us are just too busy to live an emotionally healthy and spirituality vibrant life. Hurry is incompatible with the way of Jesus. The love, joy, and peace that form the nucleus of Jesus’ kingdom are all impossible in a life of speed. We must, as Willard went on to say, “Ruthlessly eliminate hurry.”

It all comes down to the signs given to us and obedience to God's commands. We are all called to perfection and not to be afraid of the plans God has for us. St Joseph hears the commands and follows them, St Paul calls for us to receive the grace given to call others to the obedience of faith.

Be the Christmas You Celebrate - 12/16/19
Monday Dec 16, 2019
Monday Dec 16, 2019
I think about the Christmas season's tug of war over the rights of the public visibility of Christmas language and display, as well as people who feel their rights to express their faith openly are being taken away. I wonder if we Christians are missing the point altogether.
As Christians who reverence the Other who accepted and forgave us, experiencing the other as a good and not a threat should be the hallmark of our common living. It is true we now live in a society where we cannot assume that others share the same foundational beliefs about the good of humanity as we.
Nevertheless, it has always been the human experience that many different voices need to converge in a dialogue in which we consider the "Other" one with ourselves, a dialogue in which we are all together trying to come closer to truth. Christmas teaches us that truth, more than each group vying for power in an argument, is more correctly seen as a relationship.

Forte Catholic Ep 165-Taylor got ejected & Fr. Anthony Homily Review
Friday Dec 13, 2019
Friday Dec 13, 2019
We had a blast with this one!!! 😂 😂 😂
Taylor got ejected from a HS basketball game where he is the campus minister...whoops...lol. He shares the story, gets cohost Jon Blevins' take and the surprise reaction from the community.
We only have two segments today because the second is so special! Fr. Anthony sent Taylor his most recent homily knowing EXACTLY what he was getting himself into. So he joins us without joining us as Jon and Taylor give their commentary throughout the homily. Live with us the dream of many lay people to heckle or commentate during the homily. Soooo much fun! Special thanks to Fr. Anthony for giving us permission to roast him. We have been nice too...maybe...
