The Frank Friar - Episode 171: Reality Check

June 17, 2019

Well I got my new prosthetic. To say I am happy is an understatement. In the matter of a few days I have shared this joy on many social media pages. With that I felt it is important to note that the struggle is real in my life. I always worry about hero worship and putting people or things on a pedestal. Thus, the episode today is realistic sort of gut check as I lay before you all my future reality as a means for all of us to understand the struggles we will be facing.

The Frank Friar - Episode 170: Rejoicing in the Holy Spirit

The Frank Friar - Episode 170: Rejoicing in the Holy Spirit

June 12, 2019

The Holy Spirit is the Giver of Life as our creed teaches us. The divine life is possible to us in the Spirit through the life of Christ. The divine life is not something waiting for us but a gift we receive now and grow in as we follow the lead of the Spirit in this life. From that relationship, thanks be to Christ, we can be a rejoicing people. Why? Because in the Spirit we will rise, a reality and a promise made know via the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Frank Friar - Episode 168: You Are Not Atlas: The Need to Embrace the Fear of the Lord

The Frank Friar - Episode 168: You Are Not Atlas: The Need to Embrace the Fear of the Lord

June 5, 2019

I recently wrote an article on the Spirit’s gift of piety. Since, my time working on that article my mind has been going over the other gifts, in particularly the gift of the fear of the Lord. I talk about that gift today in the light of a condition I see among people and myself I call the “Atlas Complex.” Pentecost is approaching let us offer some time to think about what it means to have the Holy Spirit dwelling in our hearts.

May 22, 2019

Here is a bit of a longer podcast episode. The episode is a recording from my recent conference for the Lay Carmelites of our Province. I speak about docility. That is the virtue and the lens for the talk. There is a Q/A part at the end of the conference. You will notice I stumble over my words sometimes because my mind goes faster then my tongue. I hope you enjoy this conference and helps you along your faith journey.

The Frank Friar - Episode 162: Washed in the Blood of Christ Preparing for Confession

The Frank Friar - Episode 162: Washed in the Blood of Christ Preparing for Confession

March 20, 2019

Recently, I was reading the book Divine Intimacy by Fr. Gabriel of St. Mary Magdalen, O.C.D.  He was writing about confession in the light of the Sacred Blood of Jesus.  This is an important image for us to carry during Lent as we embrace the gift that is the sacrament of confession.

During the 2nd Sunday of Lent we here about the Transfiguration of Christ.  This moment within the life of Christ offers the disciple so many insights to the heart of Christ that this moment can never be exhausted.  Today, I offer an insight from a Carmelite perspective that speaks about living a life when we are given moments before the glory of God.  These moments do present to us a danger we must always be careful about within our lives of discipleship.

The Frank Friar - Episode 160: A Humiliated People

March 13, 2019

Recently, I went to a Jewish Community Center event on the book of Exodus.  Many things were discussed that night, but a topic came up that really struck me.  That topic was humiliation.   In the episode today, I discuss why that topic struck me and why it is important for us to be aware of your own humiliations that arise from sin.

The Frank Friar - Episode 159: Seeing His Face Via the Fast

The Frank Friar - Episode 159: Seeing His Face Via the Fast

March 11, 2019

Pain is something we all must deal with during our lives.  Fasting plays a key role in our understanding of pain.  How we see impacts how we move.  If our gaze is upon Christ, we move with him.  If our gaze in other things we move away from him.  Fasting impacts and shapes our ability to gaze upon Christ and thank him.  These are just a few things I speak about in the episode today.
