Salt and Light - Episode 33: Beauty with guest Steve Pokorny

August 9, 2018

Is beauty subjective or objective? How do we know something is beautiful or can we? What does beauty have to do with God or our relationship with Him? Join us on this edition of the Salt and Light podcast with guest, Steve Pokorny, of Freedom Coaching , which is a one-on-one mentoring system aimed at helping those with an attraction and compulsion to pornography, with the goal of reclaiming a healthy vision of the body and of sexuality, and thus become inoculated to the enticement of pornographic images.

In light of Steve's expertise and considering that so many families with children listen to our show each week, we directed the focus of this episode on a rightly ordered understanding of beauty. We discuss with Steve how we can regain a proper understanding of beauty in order to come to know God more fully, know AND love ourselves and others more completely and then share this gift with others.

Salt and Light - Episode 27: Not “Who am I?” but “Who art Thou?” with guest co-host Jamie Rives

June 28, 2018

While Chuck was away on travel for their business, Annie was joined by Jamie Rives. In an age where the dominant question seems to be "Who am I?" Annie and Jamie flip this question on its head and ask "Who art Thou?" as the foundation for their fruitful discussion regarding the education of youth in this episode of the Salt and Light podcast.

Annie and Jamie collectively have over 10 years of homeschooling experience, and in this episode they give listeners a peek under the hood of what homeschooling can look like, why we are witnessing a surge in homeschooling, what it means to classically educate children, how homeschooled students perform on standardized tests, college entrance exams, college acceptances, and career aspirations. If you're homeschooling or considering it, tune in now! Even if you're not homeschooling, Jamie and Annie attempt to provide a vision for how all children should be educated no matter the setting and the responsibility we ALL have to future generations.

Salt and Light - Episode 25: Insider’s guide to our 3-week family road trip

June 14, 2018

On the Fulkerson's 3-week 13-state road trip, there was one common theme, and they need to share it with all of you. Why? Because it directly affects each and every one of you, and it's the one thing that St Lucia shared from the Blessed Mother's message during the apparitions at Fatima 101 years ago. Which side are you on?

Salt and Light - Episode 24: Ark Encounter- Dinosaurs on the Ark???

June 1, 2018

On a recent family road trip, we explored Mammoth Cave, camped in the National Park, hiked the beautiful Kentucky trails, and visited the Ark Encounter , a life-size reconstruction of Noah's Ark according to the Biblical dimensions. Within it, we walked through three floors of exhibits depicting what life might have been like for both Noah and his family and also the animals. The life-size animals that were modeled in the exhibits were largely unrecognizable, though, because they were mostly comprised of dinosaurs. The tour continues with exhibits describing science and technology as anti-intelligence and refuting many branches of science and its discoveries, including geology, hydrology, botany, paleontology, archeology, and more. We've done episodes before on the relationship between faith and reason and religion and science and the wonderful "both/and" of Catholicism, but in this episode we focus on how we should interpret Scripture. How should we read and understand it? What does the Church say? Find out in this episode.

Salt and Light - Episode 23: Summa Bishop Barroniae

May 25, 2018

In last week's episode, we discussed many topics with respect to evangelization and the great intellectual tradition of the Church with our guest, Bishop Robert Barron. In the wake of that interview, we received a great amount of feedback wanting to know more about some of the topics Bishop Barron addressed. In this episode, we address Bishop Barron's assessment that after Vatican II anti-intellectualism crept into religious culture and explain eccumenical councils especially Vatican II in much more detail to provide the cultural and historical backdrop for the largest meeting of all time, what made it different, what it actually intended and declared, and why it has been unjustly blamed for so much confusion over the last fifty years. Tune in to this episode where we set the record straight on Vatican II.

(The title of this episode is a play on St. Thomas Aquinas' Summa Theologiae.)
